Version 2

iChat Icon

These iChatAV (Version 2) pages are coloured Green and have the iChat 2 icon on them that was in use at the time, so you know where you are. The icon differs from Version 1 by having the camera logo added.

iChatAV (Version 2) Pictures

You are In:- iChat >> Versions >> iChat 2 >> iChat 2 Pictures Index >> iChat Menu Pics Index >> File Menu
2[8] 02 iChat 2 File Menu Oct 2008

This is the iChat 2 File Menu and I will be working left to right as I have done in the original series of Pictures.

Of the Dark text items that are active in this Picture the "Go to Chat" option is to start a Group Chat by typing in a name of your choice or to join a Room name that you know.

"New Chat with Person" will enable you to Start a Direct Chat (text) with a specific Buddy.

"New Chat" in iChat 2 brings up an option to select Text, Audi or Video chat with one Buddy.

Open and Open Recent are ways to open Saved Transcripts (old iChat Text chats that have been saved in the iChat format. Obviously you have had to have opened one before to Open it as a Recent. Open Recent is not for restarting a chat with a Buddy that has just finished. Nor can you restart a Saved Chat. Saved Transcripts, if you use the option in the Messages section of the iChat Preferences, will be in ~/Documents/iChats and list by Buddy Name and Date & Time

When a Text chat or Group chat is Open you can manually Save with Save As and give it a name of your choice. You can of course use the option to Save Transcripts of chats in the Messages Section of the Preferences. Those are saved in your Documents Folder and in a folder called iChats that is specifically made.

I have never tried the Print options.

Compatibility

Confirmed to work with Win/IE 5.5 and later (should work in 5.0, but not confirmed), Firefox 2, Safari 3, Opera 9, iCab 3.02 and later, Mac/IE 5, Netscape 6 and later

Old browsers (IE version 4 or earlier, Netscape 4 or earlier) should only see a text-based page which, while not the prettiest option, is still entirely usable.
