Apple Enthusiast but not a zealot about it.
iChat 5 comes with Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.x). At the time of writing that is 10.6 through 10.6.3 iChat was updated to verion 5.0.1 in 10.6.2 and to version 5.0.3 in 10.6.3
These pages have sat here since 2008 with no update. In that time the AIM servers have been closed down (2017) and iChat has been superseded by Message and FaceTime. That effectively makes this a sort of Historical Document of how it worked.

This is the Menu for the App. It will be top left of the Screen in the Menu Bar next to the Apple icon.
The main point is to give access to the Preferences.
It also allows you to change your Profile (It was new in iChat 4). Change your Buddy Pic without using the Buddy list(s). Change your Status and Log In or Out of Accounts without using the Buddy List or the Prefernces > Accounts pane
The other options allow you to either Hide the windows of iChat or of other apps that might be open.

This Page is about the Appication Menu of iChat 5. As with all apps it can be found almost far left of the Menu Bar next the Apple icon.
It gives access to the Preferences. It also can be used to Log out of Accounts rather than using the Buddy Lists or the Accounts Pane in Preferences as well as changing your Profile (AIM vlaid Accounts) and thre Status.
It can be used to HIde the windows of iChat that are open or those of other Apps. And of course you can Quit from here.
