iChat 5 comes with Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.x). At the time of writing that is 10.6 through 10.6.3 iChat was updated to verion 5.0.1 in 10.6.2 and to version 5.0.3 in 10.6.3
These pages have sat here since 2008 with no update. In that time the AIM servers have been closed down (2017) and iChat has been superseded by Message and FaceTime. That effectively makes this a sort of Historical Document of how it worked.

This is the File Menu for the App. It will be top left of the Screen in the Menu Bar next right to the one for the App itself.
It allows you to Start Chats or Enter (Go to) Chatrooms, both on the Text Chat side of things. It also is a place where you can share Files and Pictures. iChat THeatre allows you to show Slides from Keynote or Powerpoint as the Video Feed or any other Document or file rather than using iChat to deliver the item. The iPhoto item does the soame for picture that are in iPhoto - I suggest turning Off the Soundtrack that gets linked to your Slide show if you plan to talk through the pictures with your Buddy.
You can Hide the Chat Window - separate from Hiding All in the App Menu and also End the Chat.
There is a Save As option which allows you to Save a Copy Chat with a title that you prefer or might remember as opposed to the standard Buddy's Name date and Time Format that is the norm.

This Page is about the File Menu of iChat 5. As with all apps it can be found almost far left of the Menu Bar next the App's own Menu.
It can be used to Start Chats or go to Chatrooms and share files as the Video Feed in iChat Theatre or show Slide Shows from iPhoto
It can be used to Hide the Chat Window separate from the Hide All in the App Menu. Whilst doing this you can Save a Copy As and save a chat with a memorable title compared to the standard Buddy's Name with Date and Time that is normally used
