iChat
These pages are about iChat.
They consist of old info about iChat 1, 2 (AV), 3 as well as new stuff about the latest incarnation, iChat 5.
The info in these pages has been somewhat reorganized. I hope to make sure that things are grouped in a more logical order to explain somewhat how iChat has got from iChat (ver 1) though to the current iChat 5.x.x
The Menu at the top will contain everything but may change from page to page.
iChat: Versions: Signpost page
This pages servers a dual purpose of linking to the Pictures in the Versions and providing the links to the various versions sub pages.
You are In:- iChat >> Versions >> Page: Index
The Icons are from the actual versions and lead to the separate info on those versions. There is little difference in the iChat 3, iChat 4 and iChat 5 icons. The pictures alongside lead to the particular Version sets of Pictures.
These are the Pictures for the iChat Start Up Screens.
Click on a picture to enlarge. There are then Navigation buttons to scroll through all the Pictures in this section.
Areas Covered
The whole of the Version Folder deals with items that are specific to the various versions. Generally though, they add bit by bit to the original so it is also worth reading through each section to gain an understanding of where iChat has come from.
The new sections are:-
- iChat Versions with each containing links to functions and Pics for that version.
- How-tos. A common set of How-To for each of the main functions of iChat such as adding Buddies and Starting Chats.
- Problem solving and related info expanded in to iChat 3 and 4, particularly after the Error Log was introduced at OS 10.4.7

About This Page
As the Main text says this is a Signpost page.
Compatibility
Much of this page has been altered to be as HTML 5 compatible as possible. This may cause issues with any of the Browser below.
I have tested in Safari 18.1, Firefox 130.x and 131.0, Vivaldi 6.9.3447.48 and iCab 6.2.3 (All Mac Browsers) I don't have access to a PC let alone multiple browsers to test on.
Previously confirmed to work with Win/IE 5.5 and later (should work in 5.0, but not confirmed),
Firefox 2, Safari 3, Opera 9, iCab 3.02 and later, Mac/IE 5, Netscape 6 and later
Old browsers (IE version 4 or earlier, Netscape 4 or earlier) may only see
a text-based page which, while not the prettiest option, is still entirely
usable.
